Frequently Asked Questions
All of our products are handmade in Tolar (pronounced like polar), Texas.
They are as natural as we can get without growing and harvesting the ingredients ourselves. We are thankful for companies that are dedicated to sourcing growers, harvesters, oil pressers, and beekeepers that can provide us with high-quality raw materials at prices that allow us to produce an affordable product. The consumer's continued demand for unadulterated, organic, and sustainably-produced materials will keep them available!
The short answer is no. The long answer is no. There is nothing hidden in the ingredient list.
No! There is no gluten or gluten-containing ingredients in any of our products. However, if you are super sensitive, we cannot guarantee a 0% chance of exposure. Our facilities are not dedicated gluten-free at this time, so please use your own best judgment.
Well, that's kind of a loaded question. We do not use any synthetic ingredients or harsh chemicals that would cause irritation, and our products were designed specifically for users that are sensitive to and trying to avoid those things. There are no hidden ingredients or tricky names on our ingredient lists, but there are people that may be sensitive to one of the herbs (like chamomile) or other ingredients (like beeswax) we use. Please read the entire ingredient list before using our products to make sure there are no known sensitivity triggers for you or the intended user.
Absolutely not. The colors and natural scents of our products come straight from the botanical ingredients they contain, and may vary slightly from batch to batch due to naturally-occurring variations in the plants from which they are harvested. Any extra fragrance we use is only from essential oils or plant parts (like vanilla bean). We don't make anything edible (including the lip balm), so we don't use any flavorings.
The only fragrance we use is from pure essential oils or plant parts (like vanilla bean). We chose to use the word "fragrance" on the lip balm labels because it takes up less room and allows us the flexibility to make a custom batch or variety with a different scent without having to order new labels. We don't often do things like that on a whim, but if we decide to make a special batch of lemon mint lip balm just because it's a beautiful spring day, we don't have to wait on new labels.
When kept at room temperature (about 75 F) or below, Baby Butter will last 1-2 years. Since we only use natural preservatives and unrefined oils, every exposure to heat directly correlates to a reduction in shelf life, so it's important to keep Baby Butter in a cool location to maintain the best quality and freshness.
All of our products are made in small batches. Since we use raw oils and butters and organic dried herbs, each batch may be slightly different in color and even scent. Naturally-occurring variations in the plants due to the harvest time, weather, and soil condition are to be expected, which affects our final product. The changes should be only slight, and have no effect on the quality or performance of the products. Just like in cooking, where each meal turns out just a little differently when you use fresh ingredients, each of our product batches are unique to our ingredients, as well.
The only preservatives we use in Baby Butter are Tocopherol (Vitamin E) and essential oils. Both of those ingredients and the natural, unrefined oils we use are sensitive to heat, as is true with any oil-containing personal care product. If your product has been kept in a warm place (like near the stove or in a hot car), it will definitely suffer in quality and freshness and the shelf-life will be shortened. The product is still safe to use, but will have lost some of its best qualities and is best replaced with a new container. Keeping your product at room temperature (around 75 F) or below will maintain the best quality. Any extra containers (or the ones you're using) can be stored in the refrigerator to extend the shelf life even more.
Since we use unrefined oils and only natural preservatives, every exposure to heat will shorten the shelf life of your product. Complete melting will also cause it to separate, but that doesn't make it a total loss! Bring the jar back down to almost room temperature (about 75 F) and use a fork or small spatula to stir it. Some of our products contain cornstarch for texture, so make sure to stir the contents up from the bottom of the jar and mix well. Continue cooling until the product is back to its original texture. Replace with a new container if the product loses its fresh smell or becomes grainy. While leaving a container in your car is tempting, prolonged or repeated exposure to heat will ruin it!
